Overview

Mach-Aire was commissioned to design, build and install a series of narrow stile fume cupboards as part of laboratory refurbishment works being undertaken by Syngenta.

The Problem

Syngenta began an extensive programme of laboratory refurbishment works at their Bracknell site in 2012. However laboratory work still had to continue and so the challenge was to minimise disruptions to the Scientist’s day job as much as possible.

The Solution

To minimise disruption to operations at the laboratory the refurbishment works were scheduled to take place on a six monthly rolling programme. Mach-Aire was commissioned to refurbish half of the first laboratory in 2012, whilst the second half of the laboratory remained in use. This involved designing, building and installing 6 x 2m wide narrow stile fume cupboards within extremely tight timescales. All fume cupboards had to be connected to the existing ductwork and tested before hand over. Work was completed outside of core operational hours to limit disruption to client activities on site.

 

Mach-Aire provided the client with a complete turnkey package; carrying out all Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) connections and alterations to required ceilings, in addition to the design and installation of the fume cupboards.

After Care

The success of this project and the high quality solution provided has seen Mach-Aire re-commissioned to carry out the same works in a further 2 laboratories on the site, the programme of refurbishment is ongoing.
